Ferrari 330 Shark
A unique 1965 Ferrari 330 GT 'Shark Nose' is set to cross the auction block at Russo and Steele's upcoming auction event in Arizona 2016 in late January.
As the name of the car denotes, it is unlike any other 330 GT produced in that it has a distinct front fascia. Originally, the car, chassis number 6537 GT was the same as the other 505 units of the 'Series I' 330 GT 2+2 produced and therefore complete with four headlamps as well as a four-speed transmission.
Its first owner was John Mecom Jr, the founding owner of the New Orleans Saints. After his purchase and the car's importation to the United States, it was shipped back to Italy where the bespoke front-end was created. In 1969, Mecom parted ways with the car with an enthusiast from Georgia taking ownership. Soon after, it was sold to Richard Kirzinger from Kentucky and repainted Metallic Red.
Kirzigher sold the 330 GT 'Shark Nose' in 2007 with the new owner having it comprehensively restored by Ferrari of Washington. During the restoration, it was repainted in its current shade of blue while the tan leather interior was reappointed and the mechanical components all recommissioned. As it sits, the car rolls on a set of original Borrani wire-spoke wheels with brand new tyres.
While no pre-auction estimate has been given, reports claim that it will sell for somewhere in the six-figure range.
