Mazda Will Go Straight For The Subaru Outback With Its Future Car Based On The Koeru
We already had a hunch that Mazda’s Koeru concept will make it – in one form or another – into production, but it never hurts to find out even more juicy details about the upcoming automobile from a Mazda official.
As if a camouflaged prototype wasn’t the biggest hint yet to unofficially announce the model, Mazda CEO Masamichi Kogai told Automotive News that the concept, which debuted in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show, envisions a new entry in the car maker’s line-up.
Mind you, Mazda’s boss was keen to point out that the future automobile is unrelated to anything in the Japanese car manufacturer’s current portfolio.
"It's a totally new car", said Kogai. "It's a lower, sporty SUV. It's close to a wagon. The CX-9 rides higher. So do the CX-3 and CX-5. [The Koeru] aims to generate more driving pleasure.”
So, it seems that Mazda got a taste for the SUV/crossover market, with its latest debuts, but the Kogai stressed that the Koeru’s low-profile, fastback, five-door layout will be a sporty crossover/wagon alternative for the CX-5.
Believed to hit the streets under the revived CX-7 moniker, the will apparently be reminiscent of the Subaru Outback, as the CEO continued: "That kind of genre. We'd like to see how it is evaluated globally, so we are collecting customer feedback."
