Pagani Huayra 'Project Vulcan' Arrives In Miami
Walking the line between supercar and hypercar, the Pagani Huayra is one of the fastest, most prestigious and most beautiful means of transportation money can buy today.
If we were to lean one way or another, we'd say the Huayra is a hypercar. While it may not produce as much horsepower as say a Veyron or even a LaFerrari or a P1, you can make a case for it being a lot closer to these three in terms of performance, than it is to an Aventador or Ferrari F12.
Besides, Pagani has always been more "hyper" than "super", ever since journalists figured out that the Zonda couldn't be beaten by your run of the mill Lambos and Porsches.
This car right here belongs to Brett David, owner of Prestige Imports & Lamborghini Miami, and is called the 'Project Vulcan' because since "Huayra" is an Andean wind god, it would go well together with the Roman god of fire, "Vulcan". The carbon fiber and contrasting red elements represent a sort of dance between the two.
"This Huayra was put into effect about two years ago when we secured the franchise," said David. "The entire process has been amazing. It’s things like being able to go behind the curtains and seeing what goes on behind the scenes that makes ordering a Pagani so special. Instead of feeling like a dealer, I felt like a customer for once."
Just so we're clear about what an amazing machine this is, note that it's powered by a 6.0-liter Mercedes-AMG V12 twin-turbo engine, good for 730 HP and 1,000 Nm (737 lb-ft) of torque. The car also weighs just 1,350 kg (2,976 lbs), which is less than a McLaren 675LT - basically more power, less weight and a great deal more torque than one of the world's fastest supercars.
There's actually a very touching story about how Mr David came to be the official Pagani dealer in Florida. He had to pose as a potential client so that he could travel to Pagani's headquarters in Italy. While there, he found out that Pagani had promised the dealership honors to his late father Irv David, so when he revealed he was actually Irv's son, Pagani made sure to honor the initial agreement.
"This car is dedicated to my late father, Irv David. If you look on the center console, you’ll see a special nameplate created by Horacio Pagani that honors my father," added Brett, which means this Huayra is definitely staying with the David family for a long, long time.
