[post_ad] The Mustang Shelby GT350R is a track-focused car in the truest sense of the word, but this doesn't mean that top speed is of no interest to its owners - or fans, for that matter. According to Ford, the GT350R can't exceed 170 mph (273 km/h) because of its drag-inducing aero components. Hennessey Performance decided to test Ford's official line out. With none other than John Hennessey behind the wheel, the 2016 model managed to top out at 169 mph (271 km/h), just shy of the claimed V-max. Interestingly, it wasn't just the aero holding the car back, but also the gearing. In sixth gear, the car is sitting right at its 8,250 redline at 169 mph, meaning it simply can't go any faster in stock form. Unsurprisingly, Hennessey already has an 800 hp supercharger upgrade for the car on the market, which when combined with custom gear ratios and the removal of the rear wing, should see the Mustang get past the 200 mph (320 km/h) mark.
