Genesis G90 Executive Sedan Breaks Cover, Debuts V6 Turbo
Shortly after Hyundai confirmed the Genesis name for its new luxury brand, the Korean company revealed its first model, which also happens to be its flagship, the G90.
The Genesis G90, marketed as the EQ900 in Korea where it was unveiled, replaces the Hyundai Equus. It rides on a stretched platform of the 2015 Hyundai Genesis, which will be renamed the G80 when it will be revamped in 2016.
It gets the Hyundai Group's new 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6, rated at 365 hp and 376 lb-ft (509Nm) of torque, and comes with an 8-speed automatic transmission that allows the G90 to sprint to 62mph (100km/h) from a standstill in 6.2sec.
The entry-level version is powered by a 3.8-liter V6 with an output of 307hp (311 PS) and 292lb-ft (396Nm) of torque, and the top of the line has a 5.0-liter V8 developing 420hp (425 PS) and 383lb-ft (519Nm) under its hood, and it leaps to 0-62mph (100km/h) in just 5.7sec.
Rear-wheel drive is standard, but the Korean company also offers the H-TRAC all-wheel drive system as well as the electronically controlled Genesis Adaptive Control Suspension as options.
Mind you, these are the specs for the South Korean market; those for the US will be announced at some point next year, closer to its launch.
The new G90 wears the new "Athletic Elegance" design language that translates into muscular lines, a hexagonal shape for the grille, new headlights and vertically positioned taillights.
In the cabin, there's leather upholstery, electrically adjustable seats, wood trim, 12.3-inch infotainment screen, 9.2-inch tablets for the rear-seat entertainment system, 3-zone climate control system, wireless charging, double glass insulation and triple door seals.
The KDM-spec EQ900 will become available in the first half of 2016, while the Genesis G90 is expected to arrive in the second half of next year.
