MINI, Tesla and Jaguar Land Rover All Skipping 2016 Detroit Auto Show
Despite the Detroit Auto Show being one of the industry's largest and most important to display new cars, Tesla Motors, MINI and Jaguar Land Rover have all confirmed that they will be skipping next year's show in early January.
The three automakers have opted out of next month's Detroit Auto Show because as NAIAS spokesman Max Muncey described to Automotive News, the show does not fit with the timing of their planned new model introductions. Evidently, the trio have decided to opt out of the show entirely rather than simply displaying their existing range to the North American public.
According to Muncey, “It’s just one of those unfortunate things that can happen when automakers’ product cycles don’t align.”
In a statement, MINI added to this by saying “This decision reflects Mini’s new product and brand strategy. Part of the new brand strategy is focusing on selected auto shows and an increased engagement with events that increase Mini’s access to other relevant target groups.”
While Tesla, MINI and Jaguar Land Rover won't be present, Aston Martin will be for the first time since 2009.
