Volkswagen To Launch Electric Car Concept

At next month's CES 2016 running from January 6-9, VW is set to reveal an all-electric concept car. Prior to the event opening its doors to the public, a keynote speech will be conducted by chairman of the board of management for Volkswagen Passenger Cars, Herbert Diess, on the night of January 5. It is here where the new VW electric concept will be revealed and set to “illustrate the synergy between the Internet of Things and the automotive industry”. No further details about the concept car have been released, but given the focus on advancements in automotive technologies for CES 2016 as well as the continued push for driverless cars, we wouldn't be surprised to see the electric VW concept also including some autonomous driving functions. Whatever the case may be, Volkswagen will be one of nine automakers debuting new products at the show, including Audi's brand new concept and a new BMW i8 Spyder Concept. Discussing Diess' upcoming keynote speech, president and chief executive of the Consumer Technology Association Gary Shapiro said: “CES is a celebration of diverse ideas. Our stage is open to those who bring innovation and can showcase how technology is changing the world, at times open even to those who bring controversy. When we agreed to a Volkswagen keynote earlier this year we, along with the world, did not know much about emissions testing, but after talking with Dr. Diess I felt the CES audience would be interested in his vision and curious about his plans for a new type of sustainable car. Now, VW has an opportunity at CES to show the world its designs for the future and how the company views electric mobility and sustainability.” Other keynote speakers at CES 2016 include Mary Barra from General Motors, Netflix's Reed Hastings, Fitbit's James Park and Samsung's Dr. WP Hong.
